Rebecca Robertson

Director

Rebecca is a veteran beetender & involved in all things honeyfied. She resides in Asheville NC.

She’s the Director of MayanMeliponaBee.org. They are a 501(c)3 non-profit foundation, operating in the Yucatan Mexico. They are an Environmental and Cultural Project created to support Mayan Women in business, to preserve ancient Maya cultural traditions, and help increase populations of the endangered Mayan Stingless Honeybees (melipona beecheii).

The “Mayan Melipona Bee Sanctuary Project ” was conceptualized by Robertson after she was invited in February 2020 to represent Bee City Asheville, NC in a SISTER CITY – Valladolid delegation trip to Yucatan, Mexico. Her connection to the native Stingless Melipona bees and their women keepers was immediate, as was her decision to find the ways and means to help her beekeeping sisters to grow and thrive. The first of their Bee Sanctuaries was built in February 2022. They are continuing to grow and thrive and currently have built eight new bee sanctuary locations and educated over fifty new bee tenders of the indigenous native Mayan Honeybees.

The Center for Honeybee Research is a charitable educational, research organization founded in 2011 to collect objective data in an open-sourced, non-proprietary platform for the benefit of researchers, beekeepers, and policy makers — to ensure the survival of the honeybee.
